FAQ- TRYOUTS
What do I wear to tryouts? Please wear athletic shoes and comfortable workout clothes you can move a lot in! Please wear your hair up and out of the way and no jewelry. On the day of the actual tryout, you will wear any black shorts and a plain white t-shirt (this can be any t-shirt turned inside out if necessary. Don’t buy new clothes for tryouts!)
What will I learn during the tryout clinics? We will teach you jumps, motions, a dance routine, a cheer, a chant, and the school song.
Do I have to know how to cheer to tryout? Absolutely not! We welcome applicants of all skill levels to come tryout. If you are brand new to cheer, a simple search of “cheer jumps” or “cheer motions” will offer numerous resources for you to practice at home before tryouts begin.
Do I have to tumble to make the team? Any tumbling skills are welcomed and will be a requirement for the varsity competition team, but tumbling is not necessary to make the JV and Varsity sideline teams!
How do I know if I’ve made the team? We will post a list of the members in each new squad on the front doors of Bellevue West on the night of tryouts.
Will I be able to see my scores after? We will not disclose scores or any tryout information once tryouts conclude. Coaches, judges and Principals will not be able to discuss tryouts with applicants who made a team or who did not make a team.
Are there fundraising opportunities available to help with the costs? Yes, we have several opportunities to fundraise at all points in the year.
Do we compete? Varsity Competition Squad competes locally and regionally throughout the year. We are planning on taking this team to Nationals this year! The Junior Varsity squad is competitive as well taking their routine to local showcases.
